the sweetness of summer ~ just around the corner

With Orthodox Easter just around the corner (we celebrate this Sunday), I thought I’d share a fun little montage of attending church in Greece. 🇬🇷 ~~~ This particular church is located in my grandmother’s village, but the overall experience captured is the same across all our churches. It’s one of many reasons I love my faith because no matter where I am in the world, stepping into an Orthodox church feels like I’m somewhere familiar. I realize the modern song choice is a juxtaposition to the antiquity of Orthodoxy, but I actually like the stark contrast. In our ever-changing, fast-paced world, traditions that stem from 2000+ years ago can often feel a bit out of place. Admittedly, I question my faith all the time (both in terms of practice and belief), but I have come to appreciate Orthodoxy’s preservation of the essence and origins of Christianity. I don’t normally talk about religion in a public forum because I believe one’s relationship with God (or whoever you believe / do not believe in) is personal. But I’m always keen to listen, learn, and understand what’s important to others and why it’s important to them — and I hope those of you following LXS feel similarly. My faith has deeply shaped who I am as a person, and by extension, LXS as well.

Light, the ethereal element of nature. Both elusive and all-encompassing. It’s always held a mesmerizing allure for me. Growing up, we had a large window in the foyer of our house, the sun’s afternoon rays would pour through it, covering our staircase, and I would curl up on the stairs like a kitten. There’s a magical element to light that’s hard to put into words, a way of transforming the ordinary into something extraordinary. ✨
